SHORT HISTORY OF EMBROIDERY

Embroidery has a rich history that likely dates back to ancient Egypt, possibly before the 6th century BC. While the oldest known embroideries are Egyptian, it’s very likely that this craft has even earlier origins. Embroidery then flourished in the Levant, Persia, Babylon, and Syria. Its popularity spread to the Western world during the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance, embroidery thrived across Europe, reaching its pinnacle in the 19th century with the rise of fashion and Haute Couture. This luxury resurgence allowed Haute Couture embroidery to evolve and adapt to increasingly high demands.

THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF EMBROIDERY:

First, hand embroidery is what usually comes to mind when discussing this craft, done with a special embroidery fabric and a sewing needle.

Second, semi-artisanal embroidery, as the name implies, is embroidery done by machine.

Finally, mechanical embroidery is done on multiple industrial embroidery machines.

Today, let’s delve into some ideas for embroidered motifs on bags.

POPULAR DESIGNS FOR EMBROIDERED BAGS :

To broaden its scope of operations, La Fabrique d’écharpe has invested in a highly efficient digital embroidery machine in recent years. This machine can embroider up to 16 colors of thread on the same design. The creation of patterns is facilitated by a CAD program, allowing for virtually limitless design possibilities. This places it in the intermediate category of semi-artisanal production.

Using primarily recycled materials, predominantly cotton-based, we’ve woven sturdy and resilient fabrics in our Lyon workshop for crafting bags. These accessories are then embroidered in-house. Opting for neutral backgrounds like gray, beige, ecru, and subtle metallic gold or silver, we’ve opted for vibrant, often floral-themed embroideries. These designs are curated from the seasonal trends of both summer and winter ready-to-wear collections. The delicate color palette ensures effortless coordination with your outfits.

FLORAL THEMES

The floral theme, always in vogue, is a timeless classic. But it can get a modern twist with stylized blooms in warm hues, foliage wrapped in ribbons, bouquets resembling bursts of fireworks, or enchanted forest trees.

MANDALA DESIGNS

The term “Mandala” comes from Sanskrit, meaning circle, and it extends to sphere, environment, and community, used in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Mandalas, rooted in Buddhist tradition, serve as a gateway to transcendence, acknowledged for centuries for their manifold benefits. Coloring a mandala enhances focus, fosters relaxation and well-being, allows emotional expression, and nurtures creativity. Mandala embroideries feature colors aligned on the color wheel. For instance, green/lime/yellow to create a gradation.

OLD TAPESTRY DESIGNS

Drawing from vintage wallpaper patterns, you’ll find elaborately crafted bouquets arranged in medallions, geometric flowers symmetrically laid out, and updated silk motifs like damasks and brocades. It’s a theme that’s frequently revisited in the world of ready-to-wear fashion!

We craft our tote bags from natural and eco-friendly jute material, available in various colors like burgundy, chocolate, black, or denim blue. Then, we add intricate embroideries to give your bag some personality. The embroideries feature detailed patterns and vibrant colors.
